Starfish Construction goes above and Beyond Again for Site Health & Safety

We’re delighted to announce that Starfish Construction has again demonstrated exceptional dedication to workplace Health & Safety, earning prominent recognition at the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) 2023 Health, Safety, and Environment in Roofing Awards. This year, the company was celebrated for its innovative and practical approach to managing Health & Safety risks, marking its ninth consecutive year receiving a Gold award.

Of the 121 entries, we not only achieved Gold but stood out as one of the top 14 companies that went above and beyond in our commitment to safety excellence. As a company, we not only adhered to high standards but also engaged and educated our workforce in a safety culture that permeates every level of operation. Our proactive approach has maintained high standards and spearheaded our company-wide attitude toward Safety and Sustainability.

The success of Starfish Construction's submission to the NFRC comes in no small part from the outstanding efforts of Cheryll McElroy and Karen Slaven. Their meticulous work compiling and presenting the submission was instrumental in the company's continued recognition for excellence.

We are very proud of our impressive safety record, and as a team, we never compromise on Health & Safety. As a construction group with diverse divisions, including access and scaffolding, roofing, surveys and asbestos management, our priority is always safety.

Managing Director John Jessimer commented, "Starfish Construction's commitment to Health & Safety, driven by our management team and employees, continually reinforces our company's exemplary status in the industry. As a company, we believe having directly employed personnel is critical to maintaining high Health & Safety standards, leading to fewer incidents. Our ELEVATE company culture initiative ensures all team members are engaged and aware of safety fundamentals across our UK-wide construction projects."

From policies to online and on-site training, we are a focused collective team ensuring we set best-in-class standards for our company and employees whilst leading by example across our industry. Starfish Construction is currently engaged in several Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) removal projects at educational institutions, where not only the Health & Safety of our colleagues are vital, but the safeguarding of staff and students is fundamental. Our NFRC membership and Gold Awards have helped support our tender submissions for many years and continue to form part of our accreditation process.

"As a company, we believe having directly employed personnel is critical to maintaining high Health & Safety standards, leading to fewer incidents."
