Innovative School Roof Renovation in Central London
Starfish Construction's expertise in delivering bespoke commercial and industrial roofing solutions throughout the UK is sought after by many customers, including those within the educational sector and property management. We are delighted to announce the commencement of our latest school roofing project, located in a busy, built-up area in the centre of London.
Property owners and property managers understand the importance and need for safe, secure, and sustainable properties within the educational sector property portfolio. Working with a principal roofing contractor with knowledge of roofing systems and expertise working in populated, live environments, with processes to mitigate risk throughout construction works, is imperative
Due to Starfish Construction's sector experience and previous relationship, with the customer, carrying out roofing works at a school building within their portfolio, the customer knew they could trust us to deliver a successful project once again.
Community Clean-Up Day with Residents and Starfish Construction Team
A fantastic turnout for our Community Clean-Up Day, where residents, site operatives, and Starfish Construction staff worked side by side to tidy the communal areas and surroundings of Winchester Mews. Despite the warm weather, spirits were high as everyone pitched in to remove litter, sweep walkways, and refresh the shared spaces.
The initiative not only improved the appearance of the estate but also sparked conversation around long-term cleanliness solutions. One suggestion included arranging for the local council to pressure wash and sweep the pavements twice a year, or introducing a weekly rubbish collection day to help manage waste building up from both buildings. Amy continued, "It was inspiring to see residents take pride in their community, and we'd like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated."
Resident's Coffee Morning and Chat with Their Resident Liaison Officer
A few days later, residents were invited to a Coffee Morning held at the Swiss Cottage Community Centre café. Hosted by Amy and Site Manager Geanina Rusu, the informal event provided a space for conversation, questions, and feedback about the ongoing works at Winchester Mews.
Amy added, "While only a small number of residents attended, the quality of engagement was high. One resident raised some important questions about the project's end date, roofing responsibilities, and communication from the Housing Association, which we addressed during the discussion. The resident also shared concerns regarding rubbish build-up and echoed the call for regular cleaning measures from the council."
"Another resident joined us, providing positive feedback on the current work, highlighting the professionalism of the operatives and the clear communication from the project team. He left with a better understanding of the cladding removal process and the overall works schedule, which he appreciated."
Amy reiterated the benefits of the Residents Hub as a resource, which provides an excellent overview of the project's scope of work, timeline, and critical data for stakeholders. She encouraged all residents to sign up for regular update emails.
Both residents commented on the excellent communication and responsiveness, with one stating:
"Amy is always very prompt in her responses, which is not something you usually get when dealing with people in construction."
Another added:
"The operatives are very good at what they're doing – they're clean, polite, and friendly."
These events demonstrate our ongoing commitment to transparent communication, resident engagement, and fostering a sense of community spirit. They're also a small but meaningful example of how Starfish Construction's sustainability ethos extends to people and places, not just projects.
"As Resident Liaison Officer, I had the privilege of supporting and witnessing how collaboration, communication, and care can strengthen community spirit and foster a cleaner, more connected living environment."
Amy summed up the events. "These two events were a great success and demonstrate why community involvement creates better communication with residents; past experiences can sometimes leave residents feeling in the dark during a project—I feel our commitment to transparency and good communication has shown them a different side to the construction sector."
We will share all feedback received with the wider resident body via our weekly updates, notice boards, and digital communications. Starfish Construction's Resident Liaison Officers are planning more community events across our Residential Remediation Projects and look forward to sharing more updates soon.
