Our ESG Strategy:
Proving Sustainability in Practice
At Starfish Construction, ESG serves as the operating system for how we run our business and deliver building envelope remediation. We align decisions with recognised standards, measure what matters, and report it clearly, so Duty Holders, surveyors, and asset owners can evidence safety, performance, sustainability, and long-term value.
Our approach links whole-life carbon, social value, and robust governance with day-to-day site practice and transparent Golden Thread project data.

A single framework across every project
We operate an integrated management system spanning quality, environment, and health & safety (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001). It provides clients with a consistent way of working: planned, audited, and continually improved. We couple this with Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) principles and RIBA Sustainable Outcomes to set targets from the earliest intervention and verify performance at handover.
ENVIRONMENTAL
Measure, Reduce, Prove
WLCA at design and delivery
We assess embodied and operational impacts, compare options, and evidence reductions against WLCA guidance; we prioritise retain-and-remediate over demolish-and-rebuild wherever feasible.
Carbon management across the supply chain
We manage carbon collaboratively, setting responsibilities, challenging high-impact materials, and tracking progress in line with PAS 2080 thinking.
Certification & Performance Pathways
Where appropriate, we map credits to BREEAM Refurbishment & Fit-Out to drive positive outcomes, including energy, materials, waste, and stakeholder engagement.
Safe, Respectful, Value-Adding Delivery
Additionally, we are passionate about social value legacy across our projects, in line with UK government procurement guidance. From installing Defibrillators at student accommodation projects to recycling window frames into communal garden furniture and providing jobs for local people, we firmly believe that community integration with our projects delivers value for everyone.
Accountability You Can Audit
Governance is about turning promises into performance. We set named responsibilities, record decisions and product data, and maintain auditable trails from survey to completion. Our IMS and project controls provide:
Clear roles & approvals tied to programme stages
Risk & compliance logs aligned to client requirements
Supplier due diligence (evidence of certifications/EPDs, ethical sourcing and nature-related risk screening)
Recent market analysis highlights the importance of robust, traceable sourcing, and our commercial supply chain management culture demands partners and materials that align with our ESG approach.
Skills & Culture Fuel the Strategy
Competence underpins our ESG delivery. Through our Learning & Development Hub and SKEB framework, we train, assess, and evidence Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours across teams and supply chain, directly supporting Building Safety Act expectations for competence.
