Starfish Construction Shortlisted For The Façade Awards

We all know the phrase "Never judge a book by its cover", but most of us often do. When it comes to the façade of a building, the exterior has a significant bearing on how we imagine the interior looks.

Starfish Construction carries out contracts on a wide range of commercial properties throughout the UK. Our multi-faceted divisions support the internal and external development of our customers’ property assets. In recognition of our expertise in the façade area, we have been shortlisted in the Façade Awards UK 2021.

"Our Diagnose, Design and Deliver process is key to the success of every project we successfully deliver. As one of the UK's trusted façade and building envelope construction groups, we pride ourselves on our expertise and ability to provide energy-efficient buildings and aesthetically pleasing projects."
Kevin McCormack, Associate Director - Scotland

What is the Façade Awards?

Roofing, Cladding and Insulation Magazine inaugurated The Façade Awards in 2020 to showcase the quality and innovation across the sector in the UK. After the success of the virtual awards held during a very challenging year, the 2021 Awards ceremony will be held in person on 19 November at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.

Nichola Farrugia, the editor of RCI magazine, said: "After what has been an incredibly challenging time for everyone, we have been overwhelmed by the number and quality of entries we have received in our second year of launching the Façade Awards UK."

"The outstanding diversity of the entries clearly shines a light on the complex workmanship and high-quality products involved on the individual projects."

Best use of a composite panel system

Starfish Construction has been shortlisted for our Edinburgh Murrayfield Curling Club project with the Kingspan Group, the building materials supply company.

We were appointed principal contractor on this project by Doig+Smith, one of the UK's leading Project Management and Building Surveyors.

Constructed in 1980, Edinburgh Curling Club, within the famous grounds of Murrayfield Stadium, the Home of Scottish Rugby Union, required upgrading of the cladding system after significant degradation and loss of thermal efficiency.

After our surveyors identified flaws in the existing system and substrate, we created a solution that engineered out these issues. Together with Kingspan, we designed a new cladding system that not only enhances the look of the building but reduces energy bills and heating costs.

The before and after image gallery above show the new cladding provides a modern and inviting aspect to the property. The upgrading of the building envelope has also delivered new revenue, enticing more new members to the club. The new cladding system and installation method have brought the added benefit of the reduced cost of running the facility by enabling Edinburgh Curling Club to regulate the ambient temperatures more efficiently, thus reducing their energy consumption.

The project was completed in time for the opening of the curling season and not only gained praise from the members, but visiting teams and supporters have commented on the vast difference the project has made to the club.
