Challenges and Solutions

There are several challenges that Starfish Construction regularly face on this type of project, but complacency is not a word in our company vocabulary. Working at height, asbestos material, and client occupancy were all factors on this roof replacement project. Increasingly, clients want to continue working within the building during the works process, which carries potential risks to staff, their customers, stock and significant disruption to business operations if not managed correctly.

Our use of sacrificial netting and Easi Dec scaffolding, combined with roof edge projection, helps ensure maximum safety and keeps the all-important productivity for client operations running. These and other protection processes ensure our operative's safety and the safety of staff and customers below. Following an in-house asbestos refurbishment survey, Starfish Environmental & Asbestos Services Ltd (SEAS) detected asbestos material within the existing roof. SEAS developed a bespoke asbestos strategy to complete the removal with minimum risk to the building occupants and limited disruption to normal site operations.

Outcome

With precise planning and in-house pre-works surveys detecting the presence of asbestos, Starfish Construction was able to plan the project from start to finish and factor in all potential risk elements before the works commenced.

Weekly progress reports kept all stakeholders informed throughout the works. A client appointed 3rd party-building controller carried out inspections throughout the works to underpin our rigorous in-house Health & Safety regime. Rapleys and Pendragon were very satisfied with our procedures to ensure the safety on site and our ability to complete on time.

Starfish Construction believes that it is best when your in-house teams control of every aspect of a project. From the survey stage, asbestos management and removal through to the implementation of a robust Health & Safety management plan, your project is more likely to proceed without problems, and more importantly, finish on time, and within budget.
